“கல்தோன்றி மண்தோன்றா காலத்தே முன்தோன்றி மூத்தகுடி”
“Only when the crest of mountains visible and rest of the planet are inundated by water, the Tamil race have evolved in the Earth “
Tamil isn’t just a language; it’s an identity,
A splendid bundle of rich values, culture and heritage ….
Tamil, the mother language of the world, is spoken by 70 million people globally. But then not many know that Tamil is as old as civilization itself! The earliest records in Old Tamil are short inscriptions from around the 3rd century BC in caves and on pottery. If old is gold, then, Tamil, the oldest Dravidian language, is as precious as gold, if not more! Once, the largest continent of the world ‘Kumari Kandam’, also known as ‘Lemuria’ or popularly the ‘Lost Continent’ was ruled by an intelligent Tamil civilization, spread across a region between Australia and South Africa! The first three Tamil ‘Sangams’ or the literary academy is said to be present here. Besides, the world’s first ever library housing the rarest literary works and ‘Siddhars’ or Saints with sound and accurate knowledge of Science and predictions of future are said to have existed here. Thanks to the irrefutable historical evidence of this ‘lost land’ in the Sangam Literature. The Tamil rulers, traders, travellers and daring seafarers crossed mighty oceans, scaled high mountains and conquered distant lands to establish a mighty Tamil empire from the banks of river Cauvery, Ponnaiyar, Palar, Vaigai, and Tambraparni flowing in Tamilnadu.
Tamil now spoken primarily in India is the official language of Tamilnadu and the union territory of Pondicherry, besides being an official language in Sri Lanka & Singapore with significant numbers of speakers in Malaysia, Mauritius, Fiji &South Africa. The phenomenal growth of the language has also paved way to the evolution and development of other Dravidian languages like Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Tulu.
